When Crab Was King: The Rise and Fall of the Kodiak King Crab Fishery
A Year-long radio project of the Kodiak Maritime Museum
WBH-29 Kodiak Peggy Dyson (Episode 16 Runs August 18 to 25)
08-13-2008
Peggy Dyson started her career as "The Weather Lady" by staying in touch with her husband when he was out fishing. Gradually the contacts turned into weather updates, then included more fishing vessels, until finally, years later, Peggy was hired by the National Weather Service as thier offical weather radio operator.
Peggy also helped with Search and Rescues and delivered news of the family back home in Kodiak.
Thanks to KMXT Kodiak for the recording of Peggy's 1986 broadcast and the fishermen's comments.
